A hinged shower door quote can look deceptively simple — often one total for “door, supplied and fitted” — but underneath that total sits a small machine: a heavy sheet of toughened glass that has to swing, seal, and survive being opened and closed every day for years. Each line of a proper quote exists because one part of that machine has to be paid for. A lower price may reflect a different scope, product range or business cost. Ask for the differences in writing before deciding. This page takes the machine apart: the glass, the hinges, the handle and seals, and the measurement and fitting that turn components into a working door. The system figures themselves live in our shower glass price guide; here we stay with one system — the hinged shower glass doors we install — and explain what its quote is actually made of.
At a glance
- The glass is one line, not the quote: a door panel is cut, drilled and notched for its hardware before toughening — it is manufactured, not sliced from a sheet.
- Hinges are priced by duty: they carry the door’s full weight at every swing, and the hinge set specified — its pattern, count and load rating — is the biggest quality variable in the quote.
- Handle and seals are small lines with long consequences: they are the parts you touch and the parts that keep water in, and a quote that leaves them vague will substitute them freely.
- Measurement, delivery and fitting are real lines: a confirmed quote stands on a measured opening, and the door is hung, aligned, sealed and water-tested — not just delivered.
- The published guide figure for a hinged shower in 10mm glass is approx. AED 2,500–3,500, exact quote after measurement — the final section explains what moves a real quote within that range.
The glass
The first line is the door panel itself — and, on most layouts, the fixed panel or return beside it. Shower door glass is toughened safety glass, made to the measured opening: cut to size, edges polished, and for the door, drilled and notched to receive its hinges and handle. That processing has to happen before toughening, because toughened glass cannot be cut, drilled or trimmed afterwards — a hole in the wrong place is not an adjustment, it is a new panel. This is why the glass line in a hinged quote is a manufactured component, not a material quantity: you are paying for a finished part made for one opening and one hardware set.
Thickness belongs on this line and should be named in it. Our standard work is 10mm — the weight and stiffness a hinged door wants, because the panel hangs from its hinges and must not flex on them — and the difference between thicknesses is a real specification decision, covered in our guide to 8mm vs 10mm shower glass. A quote that says only “glass” has left the single most basic specification of the door unstated; a quote that names thickness, treatment and panel sizes has told you exactly what is being made. Where a wall is out of plumb, the panel may also be shaped to the wall — templating is part of this line’s work, and another reason the sizes in a confirmed quote come from a visit rather than a photograph.

Hinges: duty drives price
If the glass is the body of the door, the hinges are its joints — and in a hinged quote, this is the line where quality is bought or quietly saved. A shower door hinge does not resemble a cupboard hinge: it clamps or bolts through the glass, carries the door’s entire weight, and controls every swing — opening, closing, and holding position — thousands of times, in a wet, steamy room. Hinges are specified by duty: the pattern (wall-to-glass, where the door hangs from the wall, or glass-to-glass, where it hangs from a fixed panel), the number the door’s size and weight require, and the load each is rated to carry. A heavier door on under-rated hinges is a door already on its way to dropping — the failure our repair work meets most often in broken or worn shower hinges.
That is why two quotes can name “hinges included” and mean different machines. A specified quote names the hinge pattern and finish — chrome, black or gold — and the set is matched to the door it will carry. An unspecified one leaves the installer free to fit whatever was cheapest that week, and the difference surfaces a year later as a sagging door, not as a line you can point to in the document. When you compare hinged quotes, this line deserves the first question: which hinges, of what duty, in which finish? The answer tells you more about the door you will own than the total does. (Choosing between hinge types for your layout is a design decision in its own right — the point here is narrower: whatever is chosen should be named, rated for the door, and visible in the quote.)
Handle and seals
Two smaller lines complete the door as a working object. The handle is the part you use every single time — a bar, knob or pull, drilled through the glass and matched in finish to the hinges. It is a modest line, but it should be named: an unnamed handle is another substitution waiting to happen, and a mismatched finish is the kind of detail you will look at daily.
The seals are the lines that decide whether the door keeps water. A hinged door is sealed at its bottom edge, down its closing edge — often with a magnetic strip that pulls the door the last few millimetres into place and holds it — and where it meets the wall or fixed panel. These profiles are consumables: they flex, harden and perish over years of heat and cleaning, and they belong in the original quote’s scope as named parts, fitted to the gaps the door actually has. A quote that treats seals as beneath mention tends to fit whatever profile was on the van, and a hinged door with the wrong seal set leaks at exactly the edges it was meant to close. Neither line is where the money hides in size — but both are where it hides in consequence, and a proper quote writes them down.
Measurement, delivery, fitting
The last group of lines turns components into a door in your bathroom. Measurement comes first and underwrites everything else: the panel sizes, hinge positions and swing clearances in a confirmed quote are taken from the opening itself, because walls lean, trays slope and photographs lie about all of it. Delivery is the movement of heavy, finished, fragile panels from workshop to bathroom without a chipped edge — a chipped edge on toughened glass is not cosmetic, it is the panel’s weakest point. Fitting is the skilled end of the job: hinges fixed into sound material, the door hung and aligned so its gaps run even, seals fitted, silicone lines run, and the shower water-tested before the work is signed off.
Read these lines for scope, not just presence. Does the quote’s fitting include sealing and testing, or does it end at hanging the door? Is removal of the old screen part of the job or an extra waiting for fitting day? A hinged quote that prices the components beautifully and leaves the installation scope vague has hidden its softest number in the least examined line — and installation scope is where “supplied and fitted” most often turns out to have meant something narrower.

The guide figure and what moves a quote within the range
For a complete hinged (openable) shower in 10mm glass, the guide figure we work to is approx. AED 2,500–3,500 — a range, not a price, with the exact quote confirmed after measurement. The range exists because the components above vary honestly from bathroom to bathroom, and it is worth knowing what the honest variation is:
- Layout and panel count. A single door in a prepared alcove is the simplest form of the system. A door plus a fixed panel, or a corner layout with a return, adds glass, hardware and fitting to the same basic machine.
- Door size and hinge duty. A larger, heavier door needs hinges specified for it — and sometimes more of them. Duty follows weight, and weight follows size and thickness.
- The opening itself. True, square walls let standard panels do their work; out-of-plumb walls and sloping trays ask for shaped glass, templating and more careful fitting.
- Hardware specification and finish. The hinge pattern the layout demands, and the finish the set is supplied in, are specification choices the quote should name — they are part of what the figure is built from.
- What the job surrounds. An old screen to remove and dispose of, difficult access, building work rules — the scope around the shower moves the total just as the shower does.
What should not move a quote within the range is vagueness: a figure at the low end built on unnamed hinges and an unscoped fitting is not a bargain version of the same door — it is a different, lesser door wearing the same total’s clothing. The range is honest when every point in it buys the same specified machine.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the hinged figure a range and not a single price?
Because the components genuinely vary: panel count, door size and hinge duty, wall condition and the scope around the job all differ between bathrooms, and each is a real line in the quote. A range with named components is honest; a single universal price would have to be padded for the hardest case or stripped for the easiest. Measurement is what turns the range into your exact figure.
Which line should I check first when comparing two hinged quotes?
The hinges. Ask each company which hinge pattern and duty they have specified, and in which finish — it is the line with the widest quality spread and the longest consequences, and it is the line vague quotes hide behind “hardware included”. Then check that seals are named and that fitting includes sealing and water-testing.
Does the quote include removing my old shower screen?
Only if it says so — removal and disposal is real, heavy work and one of the most commonly omitted lines in replacement jobs. If a screen or door is coming out, find the line that says who removes it and where it goes, or have it added before you accept.
Are the seals really part of a new door’s quote?
They should be. Bottom, closing-edge and magnetic seals are fitted parts of the door system, sized to its gaps — not aftermarket extras. If a quote is silent on seals, ask whether they are in the hardware line or the fitting line; silence usually means the cheapest profile available on the day.
Can I get the exact figure from photos?
Photos and rough sizes earn a preliminary estimate — enough to place your layout in the guide range and say whether it looks straightforward. The exact quote is confirmed after measurement, when panel sizes, hinge positions and swing clearances are known rather than assumed. Send the photos anyway: they start the conversation properly.
